Art of Rescue ~ "A New Leash on Life"

Help Florida Boxer Rescue raise much needed funds by donating a piece of your artwork for their "Art of Rescue ~ A New Leash on Life!"

For the past several years I have adopted Boxer dogs from Florida Boxer Rescue. My first adoption was Tilly. John (my other dog, not my husband!) and I went to see her at her foster Mom Renee's. Renee planned to have her for quiet a while because older dogs are a struggle to have adopted. Tilly was such a special girl. She was already nine years old when we adopted her, and I am so glad we did! We had her for two years to the week, and she brought me such joy each and every day. Many people say you love all your dogs, but you find one that is your "forever dog" and I now know that Tilly was mine.

After several months of just me and Johnny, he and I went to meet our new girl Abby, who was living with foster Mom Amanda. Abby is a wonderful addition, especially for Johnny, he now has someone to play with! She is a real cutie and a little rascal! She had several health issues; very, very, bad allergies to grass and also allergic to fish. She now lives with 12 acres of grass pasture and a shark show, but we've managed to get it all figured out. She claimed my husband, myself, Johnny, and the property the minute she jumped out of the truck! With an incredible amount of energy she keeps us on our toes.

I am so glad to have become a small part of Florida Boxer Rescue. Each year I donate a portrait to be auctioned off at their "Boxer Bash".
I have also donated a piece of artwork for their annual "Art of Rescue" fundraiser.

This year when they asked me to donate a piece they also mentioned that they were still looking for a theme. I casually mentioned "A New Leash on Life" and as you can see this is it! Samantha, a volunteer in the organization also asked me if I would be willing to create the artwork for the theme. The painting seen in the flyer above will be auctioned off at the event. The dogs featured are those of the volunteers at the Boxer rescue.

This is a very special group of people. Many of the dogs come to the rescue with health and sometimes behavioural issues. The rescue covers the expenses of any health issues which are sometimes extensive. The dogs then go to spend time at foster homes where they are given lots of love! I think I would always be a "foster flunkie," unable to give any of them away to a "forever home". I really don't know how they do it! The challenges of the program can be many, but these people do all with a willingness and love that truly cannot be equalled.

Fundraisers are a critical way in which the organization raises much needed money for the boxers. Times have been difficult over the past few years but the organization has remained able to take boxers in. Occasionally they are unable to take more rescues due to lack of funds.

"Art of Recue" is a wonderful event. Any kind of art is accepted for auction. I am putting this call out to my fellow artists to see if any would be willing to donate a piece to this year's fundraiser. Anything you can contribute would be very appreciated. Please contact me by leaving a comment on my blog or emailing me at evelynmccpeters@aol.com and I will put you in touch with a member of FL Boxer Rescue. Thank you for your interest and taking the time to visit!
